Considering SI/PI Using Electro Magnetic Field Simulators

  SI (Signal Integrity) and PI (Power Integrity) have been the major concerns because of the increasing signal speed and the decreasing driving voltage. The use of EM (Electro Magnetic) field simulator is not only an issue in the DFM stage, but also in the FS stage. In FS stage, the quickness of the task is needed both in model creation and analytical calculation in the engine. GemPackage can contribute in the former, the model creation. Using GemPackage, 3D model for EM simulator can be made as quickly as viewing 3D model in Google Earth. Currently supported tools are Ansoft EM tools. (note1). The next figure is a snapshot of Ansoft SIwave, showing the result of resonance analysis between power and gound planes, for a model created by GemPackage.

  • note1: GemPackage exports Ansoft Neutral File (ANF). Bonding wire profile data (.bwp) can also be exported. Ansoft tool needs an optional software (Ansoft Links For Gem, tentative name) to read the ANF file. Please ask Ansoft about the optional software and the available tools via ANF.
